RAPID ASSESSMENT OF SKILLING AND RESKILLING NEEDS ARISING FROM THE EFFECTS OF THE COVID-19 CRISIS IN SOUTH AFRICA

The International Labour Organisation (ILO), under the auspices of the Skills Anticipation Component of the Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) Project of the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD),  has appointed FR Research Services, led by Prof Hoosen Rasool, to conduct a Rapid Assessment of Skilling and Reskilling Needs Arising from the Effects of the Covid-19 Crisis in South Africa. The overarching objectives of the Rapid Assessment are to help speed recovery from the effects of the COVID-19 crisis, to get people back to work safely, to limit career scarring effects by skilling and reskilling, and to take advantages of opportunities that may otherwise dissipate over time.

Refer to attached letter. The DHET is part of the Technical Task team for this project and is represented by Mamphokhu Khuluvhe. You are welcome to contact her or the DDG: SETA Branch – Mr Zukile Mvalo for confirmation.

SURVEY 1 – Individual Skills Needs Survey

We are administering an Individual Skills Needs Survey to YOUTH (under 35 years) and WOMEN (all age groups) as part of the Rapid Assessment. These groups are the most vulnerable in the labour market.

We would greatly appreciate it if you would send out the link to your member companies and training providers requesting them to get female employees to complete the survey.  Training providers can send the survey youth beneficiaries of SETA projects – bursaries, internships, apprenticeships, learnerships, etc. The SETA youth staff (under 35 years) and all female staff (of all ages) are also eligible to complete the survey.
